On March 27th filing for the August Primary closed at 5pm. There were many last day filings for offices all over the state of MO, but most exciting news of the day was the 5 newly filed Democratic candidates for St. Charles County. Because of redistricting St. Charles County now has 11 state rep districts (three of them crossing over into neighboring counties) and Democrats have filed in 8 of those districts. Already filed on the first day were Bill Otto in the new 70th and Bill Stinson in the new 63rd. In both districts the Republican opponents face August primary battles. On Friday March 23rd central committeeman John Callahan filed in the new 102nd. On the last day to file 5 very determined Democrats came forward to challenge Republicans and their misguided leadership in Jefferson City. Former state rep Wayne Henke filed for the new 64th and his opponents have a primary battle. Retired Ft. Zumwalt South High principal Rod Hoffman filed in the new 107th and his opponents have a primary. Teamster Terry Lesinski files for the new 104th while former state rep candidate Tom Fann filed in the new 106th. The Republicans in that district will have a primary battle. Longtime central committee member and retired letter carrier Debbie Bixler filed in new 105th and on the Republican side there will be a primary fight.
On the local scene in county council offices, Democrat Jerry Daugherty filed the first day to retain his seat in District 6 while new comer Michael L Boyd, an attorney who lives in O’Fallon filed the last day in the unrepresented 4th county council seat. That is the district that Paul Wynn was elected to represent except he can’t vote on the issues because he has been out of the country working for most of the 4 year term.
